Getting Organized

Posted on January 15, 2018 at 3:39 PM Comments comments (2)
I always like to start the New Year out on a fresh note. That means everything is in its place with minimum clutter.

Many of you know, last year I moved from a home with 3,000 square feet to an 800 square foot condo. I must say I have no regrets. My new mantra is, "Small spaces, work less and live more"

I find that the downsizing and ridding myself of clutter has made me happier, with a feeling of control. I have surrounded myself with things that I truly love, so my home is my sanctuary.

I couldn't have done this without the help of The Lang Group. Located in Lakewood, this small, and mighty company is comprised of a trustworthy team who have a penchant for organization. The team's leader, Natalie Lang was super to work with. Before, one thing was moved, we talked about a strategy for getting the job done and created a vision for what the end product would look like.

If you're looking around your home and are eager to get a fresh start, may I suggest calling The Lang Group for a complimentary consultation. The services are affordable, and they are are locally owned, and operated. For more information contact: 216.255.0634 or [email protected]

Si Senor~ is Senior Friendly

Posted on August 18, 2014 at 10:34 PM Comments comments (0)
Many thanks to the entire staff at Si Senor~ Westlake for making an afternoon outing so special for an SCS client yesterday. This gentleman lived in California for many years and knows good Mexican food. Although he resides in a nursing facility, we go on an excursions every week. Yesterday, he felt like Mexican food and I knew just where to go.

We have been going to Si Senor~ for many years now. It's been a place to celebrate family birthdays and any other special occasion. Their food is delicious, plentiful and affordable.

Most of all it's a place to go to have fun. The staff is accommodating and bend over backwards to make your dining experience pleasurable. Yesterday, they did just that.

My client has Parkinson's Disease which has significantly affected his speech, ability to walk and more. He is very self-conscious when out in public. But yesterday he felt like every other customer at Si Senor~. The staff were very patient and gave him the time he needed to ask questions and order his lunch. They catered to his needs without making him feel ill at ease.

If you're a caregiver and are looking for a place to enjoy during an outing with your loved one may I suggest Sunday afternoons at Si Senor~. If you love Mexican food, I highly recommend this establishment.

Gracias, Jane

Emerald Necklace Inn, A Senior Friendly Business

It's always a pleasure when I find a senior-friendly business to blog about. Such is the case with the Emerald Necklace Inn. The establishment is a bed and breakfast with a tea room, a quaint tea store, a salon and spa all nestled at an entrance way to the MetroParks on the corner of Story and Lorain Roads.

If that's not enticing enough, it's Owner/ Inn Keeper Gloria Cipri-Kemer is a kind, spirited and compassionate woman with a caring heart for seniors and the infirm. She gladly opens her salon to provide a time of beauty for all of her clients, some of whom have been with her for more than 15 years. Over time, some clients have fallen ill or become disabled. But, that doesn't stop Gloria. She continues on and finds a way to serve all of her clients/friends, accommodating wheelchairs, persons with dementia and more. She makes everyone feel special, every day, Gloria makes a difference! Stop in for a time to remember, a cup of tea, a scone and much more!

Hats Off to Dr. Judith Maher

As you know at SCS when we come across an exceptional professional, caregiver, service, or organization we like to shout it from the rooftops. This is the case with Dr. Judith Maher, a neurologist within the Cleveland Clinic Health System.

I recently joined a client on a visit to Dr. Maher’s Avon office. Dr. Maher and her entire team demonstrated their compassion and dedication to patients right from the start of our visit. What a joy to observe this fine physician take her time with her patients. Yes, she was concerned about her patient’s health, but, she was also concerned about his quality of life. She asked about his golf game and if he had time to practice since she knew the courses would be opening soon. Dr. Maher even gave him information about a golf clinic that specializes in rehabilitation after someone has experienced a brain injury such as a stroke. I assure you, not every physician would make this extra effort.

Should you or a friend ever require a neurologist, may I suggest that you consider Dr. Judith Maher. I certainly know where I’ll go should I ever need a neurological consult. I am confident that I would be in good and caring hands.

With appreciation,
Jane Amata

Hats Off To Mahle's Restaurant

It always gives me great pleasure to write about a buiness that goes out of their way for seniors. Just today, two of my clients told me about their wonderful experience at Mahle's Restaurant in Westlake. They waxed on and on about the wonderful food, the reasonable prices, the warm and comfy ambiance and then they told me the best part of the story.

They were so very grateful for the friendliness of the waitress. How despite a very busy night, the owner made a table for them and seated them almost immediately  because they were exhausted from a day that hadn't worked out as planned.

By the time they were ready to leave, it was pouring rain and their car was parked far away from the restaurant. That was no problem for the Mahle's team. They grabbed an umbrella and walked the happy couple behind the scenes to a back door with an easily navigated ramp and helped them into their car. Now that's service!

So, the next time you're thinking about going out for a bite to eat, be sure to support this terrific establishment.

Halleen Kia - A Not So Senior Friendly Car Dealership

Posted on July 26, 2012 at 1:21 PM Comments comments (0)
I'm in the market to purchase a car and when I saw a newspaper ad that caught my eye I asked my Dad, (Papa Dale) to follow up for me. After all, he knows the questions to ask, has a mechanical inclination and most of all is a very happy owner of a 2012 Kia Optima which he acquired earlier this year.

When he made the phone call on my behalf, he put the call on speaker, because I was still at home getting ready for work. What should have been an information gathering call, including setting an appointment for a trip to the dealership to sign an agreement, turned into something that disturbed me enough that I am now writing about the experience.

I found the salesman to be rude and very disrespectful. The salesman's comments were condescending and he treated Papa Dale as though he was feeble-minded  and just didn't understand. When my Dad got off the phone, he could see that my feathers were ruffled. He said, "Oh, it's no big deal, the guy's probably just having a bad day." My response was, it's not okay to treat people in that way.

I could go on and on, but, I'll give you the "Readers Digest" version. Despite voicemails and emails to Halleen Kia's customer service department and management over a two week period, I received no follow up. So today, I got back on Halleen Kia's website and emailed that I was interested in a car. You guessed it...like magic I received a follow up phone call in less than two hours.

A delightful saleswoman named Kris, responded to my email by phone. I am sure that she was not expecting to get an ear full. After listening to my concerns, she asked if I would like to speak to the sales manager. Of course, I said yes, and she said she would have him call me.

Within another fifteen minutes, I was on the phone with the Sales Manager. I was expecting to speak with someone who cared, who understood the need to treat all customers with respect, to listen and respond with understanding and sensitivity.  Most of all, I expected to speak with someone who appreciated the correlation between sales and a positive customer experience.

BOY WAS I WRONG! the manager listened to my story, and said, "I'll tell the salesmen that he always needs to be on his best behavior no matter what. We have great customer satisfaction most of the time. Unfortunately, you were one of the times that fell through the cracks. That's what happens when you have the volume we have. If I can ever be of service to you or your family give me a call."

Now, I will let you the reader decide for yourself. For me, HALLEEN KIA goes on the NOT SO FRIENDLY TO SENIORS LIST. My dear friend quoted this adage, "The fish stinks from the head down."
